Fender Custom Shop Left Handed 70's Tele Bass, One Of A Kind
For decades, customers and employees of Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center have shared stories of great deals they have gotten, or a hidden treasure they found within the store. Just recently, a bass almost forgotten, was unearthed deep in the basement of Washington Music Center. This was a bass unlike anyone had ever seen, and had gone untouched for a decade until just recently.
The History Of The Bass
In 2012, a customer walked in thru the doors of Washington Music Center and laid out specifications for a bass they wanted built for themselves. It had two important qualities that needed to be met. First, it had to be a left-handed bass. Second, it had to be a Telecaster Bass. The Telecaster Bass was designed in 1968 as a straight reissue of the 1951 Precision Bass. In fact, the P-Bass design was inspired by the original Fender Telecaster guitar. The Telecaster Bass differs in shape from the original Telecaster guitar in that the latter is a single cutaway guitar and the bass is double cutaway.
After some consultation between the customer, the salesperson, and Fender Custom Shop masterbuilder Dennis Galuszka, a goal was set, and a bass was about to be born. It took a few months, but late in 2012 the bass finally arrived to Washington Music Center.
The Mystery Of The Bass
We fast-forward this story to 2020 where this bass has been stumbled upon after 8 years. Why it wasn't noticed prior, we do not know. Many attempts to locate the person who had this made came up empty, but it is obvious, that person has abandoned this one-of-a-kind instrument. It has been looked over with a fine-toothed comb by our in-house repair people, and we are ready to make this bass available for purchase to one lucky player out there.. (did we mention it's a lefty?)
