Taylor Next Generation 12-Fret Grand Concert guitars

Four New Taylor 12-Fret Grand Concerts, From the 500 Series to an All-Koa Special Edition

Taylor Guitars has expanded its 12-fret lineup with four new Grand Concert models, covering everything from an understated cedar-and-mahogany six-string to an all-koa Special Edition and a compact 12-string.

The new collection includes the Taylor 512ce 12-Fret, 552ce 12-Fret, 712ce 12-Fret and K22ce 12-Fret Special Edition.

While each model has its own tonewood pairing and visual personality, they share a common foundation. All four feature Taylor's compact Grand Concert body shape, a 24-7/8-inch scale length, Venetian cutaway, Taylor Claria electronics and a Taylor Deluxe Hardshell Case. The three six-string models also feature scalloped V-Class bracing with a relief rout, while the 12-string 552ce uses Taylor's standard V-Class bracing.

The 512ce 12-Fret pairs a Western red cedar top with neo-tropical mahogany back and sides. Its natural gloss finish is accented by white body binding, a single-ring green abalone rosette and faux-pearl Meridian fretboard inlays.

Traditional 12-fret details include a slotted headstock fitted with nickel tuners and West African Crelicam ebony buttons. The fretboard, bridge and headstock veneer are also made from West African Crelicam ebony, while a tortoise pickguard completes the look.

The 552ce brings the same cedar-and-mahogany pairing to a compact 12-string format.

It combines a Western red cedar top with neo-tropical mahogany back and sides, along with a 1-7/8-inch nut width that provides additional room for its six paired courses. Unlike the slotted-headstock six-string models in the collection, the 552ce features a paddle-style headstock with Taylor nickel tuners.

White body binding, a green abalone rosette, faux-pearl Meridian inlays and a tortoise pickguard tie its appearance to the 512ce, while its 12-string configuration gives it a distinct place within the new family.

The 712ce 12-Fret pairs a Western red cedar top with Indian rosewood back and sides.

Its natural gloss finish is framed with white body binding and black fretboard binding, while green abalone appears throughout the design. A single-ring green abalone rosette surrounds the soundhole, Reflections inlays run along the fretboard, and matching green abalone dots accent the ebony bridge pins.

A slotted headstock, ebony tuner buttons and tortoise pickguard complete an appearance that feels refined without becoming overly ornate.

Additional appointments include paua fretboard inlays, a dark-stained sycamore pickguard, West African Crelicam ebony fretboard binding and a slotted headstock with ebony-button tuners.

Four Takes on the Taylor 12-Fret

Taylor 512ce and K22ce 12-Fret Grand Concert guitars

These four guitars give players several very different ways to explore Taylor's 12-fret Grand Concert platform.

The 512ce offers a clean cedar-and-mahogany build. The 552ce turns that same basic formula into a compact 12-string. The 712ce adds Indian rosewood and more elaborate abalone appointments, while the K22ce Special Edition puts Hawaiian koa at the center of the design.

All four are open for preorder now. Contact the Chuck Levin's Guitar Department for pricing, availability and ordering information.
