Every so often the LP Custom Shop lets us do something you can't get anywhere else. This is one of those times. We worked with the Custom Shop and our Drum Department to build out a full run of Latin Percussion Matador congas and bongos, along with a set of LP Junior congas, in a finish they don't offer to anyone else: a rich transparent black that lets the beautiful wood grain read right through it, wrapped in bright gold hardware top to bottom.
That transparent black is the whole point. It isn't a solid coat that hides the shell. Hold one under the lights and you can still see the grain moving through the finish, so each drum looks a little different depending on how the wood took it. Against that dark shell, the gold hardware tops everything off with some serious elegance. These photograph like a piece of furniture, while giving you the cut and power you expect LP drums.
They're still Matadors underneath, which is the part that matters when you actually play them. Siam Oak shells, natural rawhide heads, and the same hardware that has made the Matador line a stage and studio standard for years. The gold just makes them yours.
We put the whole family in this finish so you can build the setup you want. The congas come as a Conga and Tumba pair, or step up to the full Quinto, Conga, and Tumba three-drum set that spans the 11-inch quinto, the 11 3/4-inch conga, and the 12 1/2-inch tumba. Want the LP tone in a smaller, more portable body? There's a set of LP Junior congas finished to match, plus a set of Matador bongos finished to match.
Prefer to add one drum at a time? Each conga is available on its own, so you can start with one and grow the rig: the 11-inch Quinto, the 11 3/4-inch Conga, and the 12 1/2-inch Tumba.
