We've been fans of Teenage Engineering's EP-Series since day one. The K.O. II was already one of the most fun, portable beatmaking tools we carry. So when TE announced the EP-136 K.O.–SIDEKICK, we paid attention — and what they delivered is something we didn't expect to be this good.
The SIDEKICK started out as a mixer add-on for the K.O. II. But as Teenage Engineering puts it: "it turned into something more — an effect-box with a built-in sequencer." What landed on the table is a fully independent two-channel stereo mixer, audio interface, compressor, EQ, and live-performance FX processor — running on two AAA batteries, in a package barely bigger than a TV remote.
A Closer Look
The SIDEKICK packs a lot into a small space. Here's an up-close view of what you're actually dealing with.

Front panel: dual gain knobs (orange), 3-band EQ per channel, individual faders, and the central volume and mod controls. Side panel: USB-C, output, aux, two stereo inputs, and headphone cue — all 3.5mm, all in that slim profile.
What It Does
Two-Channel Mixing with Real EQ Options
Each channel gets its own gain control (±24 dB), a three-band EQ, and a dedicated compressor. The EQ has three distinct modes: DJ-style for broad performance shaping, studio-style for more precise tonal adjustments, and parametric for surgical control. That's a level of flexibility you don't usually see in a device this compact.
Six Knock-Out Performance FX
This is where the SIDEKICK earns its name. Six built-in effects can run per channel in series or parallel, and you can dial them in with a force-sensitive FX pad and high-resolution mod stick. These aren't menu-driven — they're hands-on, pressure-responsive controls built for live performance.
Motion Control™ — A 2-Bar FX Sequencer
TE's Motion Control system lets you record and loop your FX movements over a two-bar sequence. Your filter sweeps, delays, and modulations become repeating automated parts of your live set. It transforms the SIDEKICK from a mixer into a live-remixing tool.
Full USB Audio Interface (8 In / 4 Out)
Connect it to your computer and the SIDEKICK becomes a legitimate 8-in/4-out USB audio interface running at 48 kHz / 24-bit, with MIDI control over USB-C. It works as a standalone studio sound card — no drivers needed, no fuss.
Runs on Two AAA Batteries
Or USB-C, if you're plugged in. But the battery option is the magic — take it anywhere. The whole unit weighs 300 grams and fits in a jacket pocket. Studio to stage to couch, it's ready whenever you are.
Built for the EP Ecosystem
Already running a K.O. II or EP-133? The EP Pegs (sold separately) physically snap EP-Series devices together into a unified desktop rig. And you can link multiple SIDEKICKs to expand your channel count when you need more.
