Most portable speakers do one thing: play whatever your phone sends them. The Teenage Engineering EP-35 takes a guitar, a microphone, a line-level source, Bluetooth and USB audio, and it mixes all of them together so they play at the same time. Teenage Engineering calls it the hub of your setup, and that's a fair description.

It's also built to leave the house. There's a built-in handle, a camp light, a storage compartment, and a battery that charges over USB-C. Around it, TE is launching a bundle of plug-in accessories and a set of bags made to fit it.

EP-35: front, back and top.

The inputs are where this one stands apart. The 1/4" guitar input has low and high gain settings, and the XLR mic input supplies 48V phantom power. Both get eight built-in FX presets. Add a stereo line in and line out, Bluetooth, and USB audio, and you have six inputs feeding one summing mix. Plug in a guitar, sing over it, and run a backing track from your phone without reaching for a mixer.

Connect it to a computer and the EP-35 works as a USB 2.0 audio interface, so the same box you carry outside can record at your desk.

The Bluetooth side supports LE audio and a broadcast mode, which lets you connect as many EP-35s as you want for wider, more immersive sound. And if you already own EP-series gear, the EP-35 is compatible with TE's ep-plug and ep-grid systems. With the optional K.O. dock kit, an EP-series device snaps right onto the amp.
