Keyboard Sales Department Manager
Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center is seeking an experienced Sales Manager to lead our Keyboard Department. This role is central to purchase ordering, driving creative merchandising and promotions, and supporting the growth and success of the Keyboard Sales Team. It’s an ideal position for a seasoned musician who wants to help shape the future of a well-established, family-owned business with a national reputation and deep local roots.
Position Overview
A Sales Manager oversees the sales within their department and leads their Sales Staff. You should epitomize the overarching Washington Music Center company culture within your department to maintain uniform branding and attitudes across all product categories. You are tasked with providing training and guidance to your sales associates to help everyone reach various personal, departmental, and store-wide sales goals. You are expected to monitor the effectiveness of product display on your sales floor, and to discuss possible adjustments to layouts, advertising, and deals as necessary with upper management and Stock Team. You must be able to build and cultivate ongoing positive relationships with customers and vendors both in-store and online. Sales Managers are also primarily responsible for ensuring that their department's purchase orders and invoices have all necessary paperwork provided in a timely manner.
Primary Responsibilities
Product Merchandising & Procurement
- Demonstrate expertise in keyboards, synthesizers, recording products and other related equipment and software
- Submit purchase orders to vendors and manufacturers, negotiate as needed for effective purchasing.
- Maintain inventory levels and track aging inventory, reprice as needed.
- Proactively monitor, communicate, and implement sales promotions and products.
- Monitor the effectiveness of product display on the sales floor, and discuss possible adjustments to layouts, advertising, and deals.
- Track and report on departmental profit and sales margins.
- Work with other departments when making purchase orders to get the best price margins.
- Regularly check in with Sales Staff to identify product purchasing needs.
- Work with Web Team to ensure the online store is reflected accurately.
- Work with Marketing Team to promote key items and brands.
Customer Satisfaction
- Conceive creative, knowledgeable, and profitable solutions to fit customer needs.
- Cultivate ongoing positive engagements with customers and vendors both in-store and online to result in long term relationships.
- Maintain a clean and organized department.
- Maintain the right product mix to meet customer demand.
- Maintain a welcoming and positive environment for staff and customers.
- Curate events for local customers related to your department.
Operations & Personnel Management
- Serve as a resource and guide Sales Staff to reach various customers, department, and store-wide sales goals.
- Seek out and provide development opportunities for sales associates and yourself.
- Collaborate with the Stock Team to ensure accurate inventory in the company's enterprise resource planning software, Navision.
- Take initiative to identify, communicate, and refine physical and digital areas of improvement.
- Uphold all company policies.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Available on Saturdays.
- Viewed by peers and customers as a trusted advisor who can recommend tailored solutions.
- Aware of industry trends, artist preferences, and brand differentiators.
- Established in the industry with a network in the music and pro audio community (artists, studios, educators, institutions).
- Able to build and maintain long-term client relationships beyond transactional sales.
- Experienced with interpersonal skills; approachable, professional, and respected in the field.
- Willing to collaborate cross-departmentally (web, stock, marketing) to drive sales goals.
- Comfortable with ERP systems (i.e., Navision) and digital sales tools.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Able to act independently and requires minimal supervision.
- Adept in meeting or exceeding quotas in a consultative sales environment.
- Able to develop and maintain a book of business through both walk-in traffic and outbound prospecting.
- Mindful with attention to detail.
- Passionate about music and music technology.
- Comfortable with in-person, email, and phone communication.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated success in managing or supervising teams for a minimum of 1 year.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain vendor and customer relationships.
- Cover letters are required for application to determine writing proficiency.
- High School Diploma or GED – some college preferably in music, pro audio, or general business.
Position Details:
- Full-time, exempt 40 hours per week, five days per week
- Standard hours: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM
- Compensation range: $50,000 – $85,000 (commensurate with experience and abilities)
