Create New Worlds - The Walrus Audio Lore MKII Reverse Soundscape Generator and Delay Pedal in Green
Create the soundtrack to your storybook adventure with the Lore Stereo Reverse Soundscape Generator. Made up of five different modes, the Lore is a stereo ambient creation machine built around reverse delay, reverse reverbs, and pitch shifting. Featuring multiple DSP algorithms running in series, with complex nested feedback paths, the Lore takes you on an adventurous journey rich with themes of reversing, time-stretching, pitch-shifting, and vast ambiance.
- Tweak: One knob, five jobs. Press the Tweak button to cycle through Width, Mod Rate, Mod Shape, Shift, and Ramp, then turn the Tweak knob to set the selected value
- Width: Sets how far the wet signal spreads out between the left and right channels. Keep it narrow to stay focused, or open it all the way up and let the ambiance wrap around you. Running mono in and stereo out is an easy way to make one guitar sound huge
- Mod Rate: Sets the rate of the modulation LFO, anywhere between 0.1 Hz and 5 Hz
- Mod Shape: Selects the shape of the modulation LFO: sine, square, or random. Random is a good time
- Shift: Sets where Dive / Rise lands, anywhere between 0.5x and 2x. Set it below 1x, and you dive. Set it above 1, and you rise. In Mode IV, the Time knob is already working on the same sample rate, so keep Time and Shift on different values or Dive / Rise will have nothing left to do
- Ramp: Sets how long Dive / Rise takes to travel between normal speed and your Shift target, from 50 ms to 5000 ms. At 50 ms, it is a near instant jump. At 5000 ms, it is a long, seasick glide
- Momentary Feature: Dive / Rise- Holding down the tap tempo switch will momentarily shift the clock rate of the pedal down or up and will hold it at that rate for as long as the switch is pressed. Use the Tweak button and knob to adjust Shift and Ramp
- Presets: Save and recall three presets right on the pedal (red, green, blue), plus a live mode (white) for when you just want to turn knobs. Another 127 presets are available over MIDI. Expression assignments save with each preset
- MIDI and Expression: MIDI clock controls delay time from 100 ms to 1000 ms in Modes I, II, III, and V, and drives the sample rate stretch in Mode IV. Every knob is available over MIDI CC, along with Mode select, bypass, and tap. Any knob can also be assigned to the expression input, or the jack can be set up as an external tap instead
- Bypass Modes: Run in Trails to let the reverb and feedback decay die off naturally when the pedal is turned off, or No Trails to cut it off abruptly. The Lore ships in Trails mode
Once upon a time, in a fairy tale world, there was a hidden forest. On the eve of a full moon, magical, delicate sounds of light bounce and reverberate through the trees. The story goes that these sounds have been told and retold so many times that they come back changed, stretched out, and turned around, full of artifacts of things moving backward through time. These sounds are called the Lore.
The Lore features five modes, each one pairing two effects that feed into each other through separate feedback paths, so the sound keeps developing instead of repeating. Reversed swells, octave shimmer, sustained pads, and pitch delays that sit somewhere between a sequencer and a harmonizer. All of it in stereo, with MIDI, expression, and customizable presets.
Modes
- Mode I: Reverse Delay into Reverse Reverb: Mode I combines reverse delay with reverse reverb, with a focus on organically interacting feedback paths. Space and ambiance build as the signal reverses, re-reverses, reverberates, and reverses again within the feedback network. Experiment with the X knob to control how reversed your delay trails are before being processed through the reverse reverb. Fully left is least reversed, and right is fully reversed. Lots of fun with big, eerie minor chords
- Mode II: Reverse Delay into Octave Up Reverb: Mode II is a "light reverb" that combines octave-up harmonic feedback with an expansive, airy reverb tank to create a breathy, spacious ambiance. Use the Regen knob to introduce a playful shimmer into the reverb decay. Increase the X knob to control reverb decay. Sounds especially great with delicate fingerpicking parts
- Mode III: Reverse Delay into Octave Down Reverb: Mode III is a "dark reverb" that combines octave-down harmonic feedback with heavy filtering and harmonic distortion to create a sound that is thick, rich, and murky. Use the Regen knob to bring a lower octave into the reverb decay. Increase the X knob to control reverb decay. Add in some high gain or fuzz to alter the time-space continuum
- Mode IV: Reverse Reverb into Forward Reverb: Mode IV is a dual-reverb mode. Dual harmonic feedback paths let you dial in octave up with the Regen knob and octave down with the Feedback knob, and time stretching gives you control of the size and character of the space. Use the X knob to control the forward reverb decay. Perfect for instantly transforming guitar into rich ambient pads. Set the mix fully wet, get dynamic with your picking and strumming, and you are in ethereal drone territory
- Mode V: Pitch Delay into Pitch Delay: Mode V features two "dueling" pitch delays, which shift the input signal up and down in complementary or opposing directions, letting you create intricate harmonic patterns in the feedback network. Behaves like a sequencer at higher delay times and like a harmonizer at lower delay times. Use the Feedback and Regen knobs to control various amounts of pitched delay repeats. Use the X knob to change the order of the 4th, 5th, and octave intervals that the pitch delay steps through. Experiment with short staccato notes to create some very interesting rhythmic parts!
The Lore uses Walrus Audio's proprietary digital processing platform, MDSP. Designed in-house by its engineering team, MDSP sets a new benchmark for high-fidelity audio and innovative design, delivering decades of inspiration to creators seeking practical yet forward-thinking gear.
