The Katana-25 is the Katana sound sized for the place most of us actually play: at home. It's a 25-watt combo with a custom 8-inch speaker, and it's built on the same BOSS Tube Logic approach as the bigger Katanas. So it reacts to your picking and your guitar's volume knob the way an amp should.

The power section is a reactive analog design, which means the speaker and the amp work together the way they do in a tube combo. That's where the warm low end and the punchy attack come from. Flip the Power Control switch and it drops from the full 25 watts to half a watt, so you can get that cranked-amp feel at a volume your family (or your neighbors) can live with.

You get six amp characters, from sparkling clean to high-gain "brown sound," and one of them is tuned for acoustic-electric guitars. If you've got an acoustic with a pickup, that saves you buying a second amp just for it. Add more than 60 BOSS effects, up to five at once. On the panel there are 20 ready-to-play presets with 10 open slots for your own, plus gain, volume, three-band EQ, a tap tempo button for delays and a built-in tuner.

Bluetooth is where it really earns its spot next to the couch. Stream songs from your phone and play along through the speaker or your headphones. Open the BOSS Tone Studio app and you get the full effects library, deeper editing and tones shared by other players on BOSS Tone Exchange. The app's Session feature lets you play along with YouTube videos and have the amp switch Tone Settings automatically as the video plays, which is a handy way to work through a song part by part.

The rest is the stuff you'll use every week. There's a headphone jack that also works as a recording out, and a class-compliant USB-C port for recording straight into a computer or mobile device. A footswitch jack takes a BOSS FS-series switch for hands-free preset changes, and the FS-1-WL footswitch and EV-1-WL expression pedal connect wirelessly. At just under 11 pounds, moving it from the bedroom to the living room isn't a project.

The Katana-25 is out now, and we've got them in the shop. Come plug one in at our Wheaton store, or pick one up at ChuckLevins.com.
