Get A Snare That Exudes Class And Craftsmanship With The Drum Workshop 14" x 5" Jazz Series Snare Drum - Champagne Glass
From straight-ahead Bop, to Big Band, Fusion, Latin, or even Hard Rock, DW Jazz Series drums provide a warm, tonal spectrum that is studio-friendly and perfectly suited for live applications. Inspired by the American drum sounds of the late 70's and early 80's, the Jazz Series shells feature a thick gumwood core that can be combined with maple, mahogany, or cherry inner and outer plies. Jazz shells can also be customized with any available California Custom Shop finish and drum hardware color.
This is how DW does Jazz.
MAPLE/GUM HYBRID SHELLS
At the heart of every DW Jazz Series shell is a thick 3-ply gum core. The soft, porous gumwood offers a warm, round, punchy sound that can be complemented by either the resonant attack of maple or the musical qualities of mahogany or cherry. These combinations can even be intermixed within a kit to further customize specific sonic preferences. And unlike Collector’s Series or DW Classics, DW Jazz Series drums don’t have reinforcement hoops, allowing for a more open, less focused sound.
DW TRUE HOOPS
To make a better instrument, sometimes you have to go back to the basics. DW spent nearly a year-and-a-half designing and perfecting the most consistent counter hoop they've ever produced. It's called the True Hoop and it's a major advancement in the relationship between bearing edge, drum head and counter hoop. As drummers, we know how critical that relationship is to tuning and tone. The True Hoop is just that, round and flat, and without the typical variations you often see around stamped holes. It even has an attractive new touch: a fully-rounded outer edge. Snare drums have 3.0mm gauge True Hoops.
THE FINEST DRUM TUNING SYSTEM AVAILABLE TODAY
To give drummers even more control over their sound, DW created its patented True-Pitch rod system. The rods feature 5mm threads rather than the 12/24 that’s standard on most other drums. To compare, there is 1 thread every 0.8mm on our True-Pitch rods (about 20% more threads), versus 1 thread every 1.05mm on most other drums. The result is a more exacting tuning process.
Time-tested True Pitch Tuning technology has been around for years. The added thread count gives drummers an expanded tuning range and the advancement has been adopted industry-wide. As DW’s team of craftsmen and designers have continued to improve upon bearing edge cutting techniques, counterhoop consistency, and overall shell making, the time has come for even more control over tuning. DW proudly present, True Pitch 50: the new tuning standard. At fifty threads per inch, these upgraded stainless steel tension rods provide ultra-smooth fine- tuning, allowing for less back-out.
DW SNARE STRAINER SYSTEM
A purposefully simple design, the MAG is a workhorse drop throw-off with horizontal tension adjustment and smooth, easy-adjust action. It gets its name from a clever magnet that's integrated into the body of the throw-off. When the handle is in the up position, it won’t release without a slight tug. When it does release it throws the strainer completely off the head to avoid any strainer buzz. The innovative new 3P, three-position butt plate, allows you to easily and accurately toggle between 3 different levels of strainer tension. The combination of the MAG throw-off and the 3P Butt Plate is the most reliable and adjustable strainer system DW has ever built.
